when will I learn......

well, we are busy planning our BIG road trip and trying to decide on
which route to take and where we will stay on our way up to the
Whitsundays region in Queensland.......
we set off next friday.......

in preparation for a 'beach holiday' I thought I might have a go
at making a white-jersey-crossover-t-shirt-top.......

I got the pattern out......
yes I actually had a pattern to use and I was
determined I would use it without veering off one way,
or the other.......

I cut out the corresponding pieces for my size.......
I spent time cutting stretchy white jersey fabric.......
and transferring all the little notches and dot markers........
I pinned the bits that needed pinning.......
basted the bits that needed basting.......
I sewed, and trimmed, and zig-zagged and felt mighty proud of myself......
it looked good.........

I tried the finished top on......

it didn't fit......

oh bother.......

you see, people who REALLY sew clothes
{not people like me who like to just 'have a go' now and again}
know that commercial patterns often turn out a different
size to the clothes you buy in shops even if you make the
size you would normally buy in the shops.......
I however, always think that if it says it is a certain size on the
pattern then that is the size it will turn out..... eg. my size.....
I need to learn to read the actual measurement section before
I embark on a clothing project for myself next time....

never mind, I don't think missing out on having a cross-over-stretchy-
white-jersey-t-shirt-top is going to spoil the holiday.......

I'll just make do with what I have in the closet this time
round and enjoy the views instead.....

{not my photos, but I am imagining myself lounging in
places such as these in a couple of weeks' time - if we manage
to survive the 2,500 km journey......}
