And yet more screen printing....

Our final morning together in the printmaking room at the school before the holidays and we had decided to try our hand at making our own screens to print from. We drew our own images onto paper and then had them photo copied onto acetate. I drew one picture which would appeal to Isaac and one which would appeal to Evie. No great works of art here, just very linear images which I knew I would be able to use for a few different items in their rooms (and which would transfer well onto the silk screen).

I took a screen that was coated in photo emulsion and put my images on a UV light source in the dark room, placed the screen on top, followed by a large wheat bag to hold it all in place (!!) and then turned on the UV tubes for 25 seconds. I then hosed off the screen and was left with the two images transferred onto the screen itself..... just like magic!

We spent the evening (hence the dark photos!!) printing from our screen onto various bits of fabric and paper at the dining room table and being thoroughly amazed at how crisp the images came out and how easy the whole process is (when you have all the right equipment of course!!)

I am hoping that I can spend some more time after the holidays still availing myself of the wonderful resources the school has.....
