I love Saturdays (have I mentioned this before??!!)
Today I waltzed out of the house at 10am with my crochet bag in hand and went and had a rather delicious cup of coffee and a yo-yo at one of my favourite coffee houses - The Potted Pair (Dot, I thought of you!)
It was fabbo.... just me and the crochet.....
A couple of hours later it was time to come home, pick up Evie and take her to her second embroiderers guild meet-up.
You should have seen her...... sewing bag in hand with lots of bits and bobs inside chosen because they were 'important things to take along' - especially the pencil with the deer sitting on top - that was obviously going to be invaluable......
She also took her VERY SPECIAL scissors with her (Isaac bought them for her as a gift with his own money......just because..... how sweet is that!)
I made a little dangly thing for them so that she would know they were hers::
And she kept them safe inside the little scissor pouch Auntie Dottie made for them::
She gaily skipped off with her friend Ruby, who was also sporting a rather lovely 1970's red wicker sewing box, and they made themselves at home ready for a couple of hours of stitching......
****************************
I was meant to be going straight home after dropping her off but got a little waylaid in Spotlight, looking at patterns, and then at the local op-shop which I haven't browsed round for AGES, so felt I had an obligation to have a quick gander round this afternoon.....
And I was so glad that I did stop by because I picked up a fabulous single vintage bedsheet for a snap - $2.50::
A few weeks ago I borrowed Betz White's book Sewing Green from the local library and had decided that I definitely needed a pair of the lounge pants, as made by her in the book, from a vintage bed sheet.
I had been hoping to pick one up but until now have had no luck at finding just the right one....... well now I have :: yipee...... I shall cut out the pieces tomorrow!
Brian gave the sheet a rather dubious look and asked if I would be wearing the trousers out in public...... rather cheeky I thought! I told him I wouldn't, but if there was enough sheet left over I may well make a wrap skirt (pattern also found in Sewing Green) which I most definitely WOULD be wearing in public...... particularly when going out with him!!!
I also picked up this top at the op-shop.....
Now before you think I have taken leave of my senses, I didn't buy this top to wear as-is, I bought it because it is pretty much exactly the shape I have been looking for to make myself a tie front jersey top.
I have been scouring for a pattern (hence the waylaid-ness in Spotlight) but the patterns have been really expensive and never quite what I have been looking for. Well for 50c I got this great shaped top, in my size which I am going to unpick and use for my own pattern...... ta da!
Let's just hope my cunning plan works......
Anyway, by the time I had got back home after all my bargain hunting it was time to go and pick Evie up from her stiching....
She had added a few new stitches to her stitch sampler::
and had picked up the book cover she made on her first stitchy afternoon last month::
She was very excited as all the junior girls had been given a bag full of 'bits and bobs' to add to their sewing kits..... needless to say we spend some time pouring over the contents of the bag when we got home..... what treasures she received..... she even said if I was making something VERY SPECIAL she may let me have a little bit of the lace she had received to put on it.... what more could a mummy ask for!!
Yep, I had a great Saturday.....
Hope you have a great one too........
