a spot of felting......

evie has been taking part in a homeschool art class
at the art gallery for the last few weeks and the class
has been focussed around the theme of 'hats'.......

before the first class we hit the op shops to find an old hat
that she could customise during the four week class......

she chose the biggest sombrero I have ever laid my eyes on......

seriously, it is about 3ft wide.......

this week was the third out of four classes and they
had a special guest in to teach them how to do
a spot of felting.....

now evie has done a bit of felting before
but this time Jennifer Forest
{who is a textile artist and author of the very lovely book
gave them a lesson in nuno felting.......

evie LOVED it and made three little nuno felt 'flowers'
to put onto her 'hat'
{of the sombrero variety}......

Jennifer was very kind and encouraged us to take some supplies
away with us so that we could have a bit more of a play at home.......

so we did........

and today, evie was out on the deck
{where it was beautifully sunny and warm}
with her supplies at hand.........

some beautifully coloured merino wool tops,

some little pieces of silk fabric......

a tub of hot water with a bar of soap in......

a piece of bubble wrap......

and a mission in her heart to create more
'pieces of art'........

I spent some time marvelling at the natural art
of the cherry plum tree.....

just lovely.......

hope your weekend is a
fine and dandy one......
